GOD HEARS THE BIRDS SINGING

The past two mornings, standing at the kitchen window, I was delightfully serenaded by birds singing their happy tunes. I was reminded that if God watches over every one of these tiny creatures, He is also watching over us.

This week, our Governor, changed the status of “recommending” no meetings over ten persons, to a “mandate” with consequences for anyone doing so. A few of us will be at church Sunday, but we need to limit the attendance as much as possible. We will again do a “live stream” at 11:15 am.

Recently, someone posted that the name “Corona” is Spanish for King, Ruler or Sovereign. We know that this virus is NOT a King but we are also reminded that Jesus is the “KING OF KINGS”.  I did a little more research and learned that this name comes from the fact that under a powerful microscope the virus looks like “a globe with little globules, resembling a crown” and in Latin “corona means crown or garland”.

I also discovered that in Germany, there is a Saint named “Corona”. Ironically, she is known as the “Patron Saint of Epidemics”.  She was a 16 year old girl who was brutally killed 1800 years ago by the Romans because she would not renounce her faith in Jesus Christ. History says she was tied between two ‘bent over’ sapling trees. When the trees were releases, they literally “split her apart”.

We may feel like we are “split apart” during this crisis, but we have the knowledge and hope that God is our help and strength. It is a powerful time, not to “Renounce” but “Pronounce”, that “Jesus is Lord”

We hear the news reports that the United States has had 1,700 deaths from this pandemic. In perspective that is 5 deaths in every “Million” people in our nation. If we continue to practice “personal distancing” (you’ll hear why I call it that Sunday morning) we will keep that number consistently low.

Although, we cannot “physically” connect Sunday, we can once again share by “live” streaming the message this Sunday. I will send the link in another message later today.

We will be observing Holy Communion during that time together, so I ask you to get juice and cracker or bread handy so that we may all share together.

We are also working on having a “drive-in” church for Easter Sunday, but with the restrictions being raised almost daily we will have to wait and see.

Remember the Words of Jesus when He tells us not to worry,

Luke 12:24  Consider the ravens, for they neither sow nor reap, which have neither storehouse nor barn; and God feeds them. Of how much more value are you than the birds?

IT-TAKES-ONE- TO-MAKE-ONE

MARCH 24

Each according to its kind.

GENESIS 1:24 NKJV In the book of Genesis (“beginnings”), God shows us how He intends things to work in life: “Let the earth bring forth the living creature … each according to its kind.” Each one of us is a product of our DNA and our environment. Now, fast forward. How many giant killers were in Saul’s army? Not one. When Goliath challenged Israel every soldier quaked with fear. Yet

David, who came to bring food to his brothers, sized up the situation, recalled his experiences with God and went out and killed him. Now, after David became king, how many other giant killers arose in Israel? Lots: “Then Sibbecai. .. killed Sippai, one of the descendants of the giants, and they were subdued. And there was war with the Philistines again, and Elhanan … killed Lahmi the brother of Goliath the Cittite, the shaft of whose spear was like a weaver’s beam. Again there was war at Gath, where there was a man of great stature who had twenty- four fingers and toes, six fingers on each hand and six toes on

each foot; and he also was descended from the giants. When he taunted Israel, Jonathan the son of Shimea, David’s brother, killed him. These were descended from the giants in Gath [Goliath’s home town]: and they fell by the hand of David and by the hands of his servants” (LCh 20:4-8 NAS). Why do you suppose there were 110 giant killers in Saul’s day? Because Saul himself wasn’t one! But under David’s leadership they multiplied because David was a giant killer. This illustrates the “it-takes-one-to-make-one” principle that starts in Genesis and runs through the Bible.

So the word for you today is-be careful who influences you, and be careful how you influence others.

An old farmer was inconsolable after his dog goes missing.

He took out an ad in the newspaper, but two weeks later, there’s still no sign of the mutt.

“What did you write in the ad?” his wife asks.

“Here, boy,” he replies.

TWO LESSONS YOU LEARN ONLY IN LIFE’S STORMS

MARCH 23

Why are you so fearful?

MARK 4:40 NKJV

In the Gospel of Mark we read: “He said to them, ‘Let us cross over to the other side’ … And a great windstorm arose, and the waves beat into the boat, so that it was already filling. But He was in the stern, asleep on a pillow. And they awoke Him and said to Him, ‘Teacher, do You not care that we are

perishing?’ Then He arose and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, ‘Peace, be still!’ And the wind ceased and there was a great calm. But He said to them, ‘Why are you so fearful? How is it that you have no faith?’ And they … said to one another, ‘Who can this be, that even the wind and the sea obey Him!”

(Mk 4:35-41 NKJV).

Here are two lessons you learn only in life’s storms: (1) You must trust what God has told you. When Jesus said, “Let us cross over to the other side” there wasn’t a big enough wave to take them under, no matter how threatening. What has God promised you? Standing on that won’t keep you from getting

scared or soaked, but it’ll keep you from sinking. (2) You must remind yourself who’s in the boat with you. If the Lord can calm a storm, He can prevent one. So when He permits you to go through storms it’s to show you that you don’t have a problem He can’t solve; that you may be powerless in the situation

but He’s not; and that through this experience you’ll come to know Him in a way you have never known Him before. So learn these lessons well and come out stronger on the other side.

At a motivational seminar, three men are asked to come up to the stage. They are all asked, “When you are in your casket and friends and family are mourning upon you, what would you like to hear them say about you?”

The first guy says, “I would like to hear them say that I was the great doctor of my time, and a great family man.”

The second guy says, “I would like to hear that I was a wonderful husband and school teacher who made a huge difference in our children of tomorrow.”

The last guy replies, “I would like to hear them say…… LOOK!!! HE’S MOVING!!!!!”

“WE ARE AT WAR”

Good morning.

I pray that everyone is adjusting to the current situation.

This morning Dr. Jim Dennison wrote, “This is war: We can only defeat coronavirus if we do it together”.

Dr. Dennison is a Pastor, Educator, and Author who thoughtfully “engages the issues of the day from a biblical perspective”.

His comparison to World War II in which his father served is a reminder of the devastation and danger of war conditions. We are truly in a war, as he states, and it is up to each of us to do our part. During World War II, many went to the front lines to fight. But more stayed home and fought the war by what they could do and what they would sacrifice. If the United States would have had the resources then, that we have now, the war would have ended much easier and quicker. But the United States went to work building weapons and equipment to fight the enemy and although it took time and cost lives, still won the war. WE WILL WIN!  WE HAVE THE VICTORY! Jesus said “Now when these things begin to happen, look up and lift up your heads, because your redemption draws near.” – Luke 21:28

In this microwave day, we want all answers to be “instant” and are frustrated at the lack of “tests” and “medical supplies”. Doctors and hospitals are overwhelmed and many are suffering the results of stress and helplessness. We are not used to empty grocery store shelves and many are suffering loss of income or the pressures of home quarantines.  Yet many of the world face this every day without a pandemic to deal with.

Social Distancing is something new to all of us. We are so used to community, especially in church. We often quote Hebrews 10:24  And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, 25  not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching.

Many of us remember the events after September 11, 2001 when the mainland of the United States was attacked for the first time. The results ended in most church buildings filled with people fearful of the future. Today, we are asked to only meet in groups of less than 10 and church buildings are empty.

But keep in mind that the “CHURCH” is not a building or an organization. It is a Living, Breathing, Presence of our Lord Jesus Christ through us.  So if you cannot attend church, remember “YOU ARE THE CHURCH”. Be faithful “stir up love and good works” and “exhorting one another”.  We know THE DAY is approaching. This is just a brief moment. Eternity is ahead. Praise the Lord!

With this in mind. . .  I will be at church Sunday Morning at the usual time of 10:45 am. The church will be open to anyone and everyone who would like to be there. We will have some worship, prayer and a brief message. We also will be broadcasting the message beginning at 11:15 am. I will send another message later today concerning how to connect.

God Bless and Keep You.

Have you developed “cabin fever” yet?

Have you developed “cabin fever” yet? Avoiding contact with other people is the key to staying healthy, especially for high risk individuals. So, what are some of the ways you are keeping yourself well? I’d love to hear from you. Myself, since I can’t go to the gym, I’ve restarted a morning walking regiment. Walking alone early in the quiet of the mornings is refreshing, safe and good for me.
But the best thing you can do at home is PRAY! Pray for an answer to this virus. Pray for those who are affected, Pray especially for the Health Care Workers and those who continue to provide for our well-being and services.

Remember and Pray the Words of the Psalmist
Psalm 46:10 Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth! 11 The LORD of hosts is with us; The God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah

We know that it has been advised to avoid groups of 10 or more, but we still feel it is important to at least gather for prayer and worship. Some of us will be at church this Sunday at 10:45 am. You are invited to attend if you choose. To reduce time of exposure, we will suspend Sunday School and children ministry until April 5

Be safe not scared, We serve an Almighty God.
